Dink

In sporting contexts, a dink is a drop shot in tennis and other racquet games and this usage dates from the 1930s. More recently, it is frequently used in association football to describe a soft chip over the goalkeeper. Some etymologists maintain that the word is purely imitative of the sound of such a play, but others maintain it has links to dinky.
