Die wondering

Origin of: Die wondering

Die wondering

This catchphrase is usually in the negative form of not to die wondering or the injunction don’t die wondering, which means to get on with whatever it is and do not leave anything unresolved or to chance, otherwise one might have regrets and die wondering that one could have resolved whatever it was, or done better at something or other. It is not known who coined the catchphrase but it is first attested from the 1920s. Google N-Gram Viewer, however, shows that 'die wondering' has taken off dramatically from the beginning of the 21st century.
