Cuts no ice

Something or someone that cuts no ice has no credibility, influence, importance or relevance dates from America in the late 19th century before refrigeration when ice was a highly prized commodity and had to be cut as blocks of ice from frozen lakes and rivers. Cutting ice in this fashion was very hard work and people who could not cut ice were not highly regarded.
