Cow corner

Origin of: Cow corner

Cow corner

That part of a cricket field between deep mid-wicket and long on, date of origin unknown. There are two theories about its origin. The first one is that so few legitimate or correct shots are aimed there; it would be a safe area for cows to graze. The second is that it originates from Dulwich School where cows actually did graze on that part of the school’s cricket field. No date of origin, however, is forthcoming for either story.
