Come quietly

Origin of: Come quietly

Come quietly

This expression has nothing to do with discreet orgasms. It has rather been associated with police procedure since the late 19th/early 20th century but gained currency in 1932 with the publication of Brave New World by Aldous Huxley in which the following extract occurs. “Will you come quietly?’ asked the Sergeant, ‘or must we anaesthetise?’ He pointed to his water pistol menacingly.”
