Codger

Usually in the form of old codger and describes, irreverently or perhaps whimsically, any old and slightly foolish fellow, and dates in this sense from the mid-19th century. It is first recorded from the mid-18th century and, according to the OED, originally meant a miserly old person, which prompts the OED to suggest that it may be a corruption or variation of cadger.
