Cobblers

This expression derives from rhyming slang in the early 20th century, cobblers’ awls/balls, referring to testicles. What a load of cobblers meaning what a load of rubbish is a bit more refined than what a load of balls. (A cobbler’s awl is a sharp, pointed tool for punching holes in leather.)
