Charmed life

Origin of: Charmed life

Charmed life

To lead a charmed life is to enjoy a period of good fortune as if by means of a charm or spell. The expression was coined by Shakespeare in Macbeth (1605) Act V, Scene VIII and was uttered by Macbeth himself just before he was slain by Macduff. “I bear a charmed life, which must not yield to one of woman born.”
