Bus

Bus is an abreviation of omnibus and dates from 1832. Back in the 1820s, an omnibus was public, horse-drawn transport. When motorised transport replaced horse-drawn, the name bus stuck. Bus, usually followed by an exclamation mark, is an Anglo-Indian colloquialism that means enough or stop! Dates from the mid-19th century and derives from the Hindi 'bas' meaning the same thing.
