Bogart a joint

Selfishly keep a joint (marijuana cigarette) to oneself rather than share it, an Americanism from the 1960s, derives from Humphrey Bogart (1899-1957) the famous American actor, who was invariably featured, talking with a cigarette in his mouth, throughout his film career. The song Don’t Bogart That Joint My Friend, performed by the group Fraternity of Man, was featured on the soundtrack of the movie Easy Rider (1969) starring Dennis Hopper, James Fonda, with a cameo performance from Jack Nicholson.
