Bobby dazzler

Chiefly British and Australian informal expression for someone who is excellent and puts on a good, sometimes showy, performance, in any field of endeavour, which dazzles audiences. The OED cites its first usage from the 1860s and states that the etymology of the 'Bobby' part is unknown.
