Blue-eyed boy

The current darling or favourite, blue-eyed boy in this context appears to have been coined by P.G. Wodehouse in Damsel in Distress (1919), “He’s the blue-eyed boy, and everyone else is an also-ran.” The American equivalent is “fair-haired boy” obviously both expressions were coined, perhaps unconsciously, in the white supremacist era.
