Blitz

Emerged from the Second World War, a shortening of blitzkrieg, which is German for lightning war, the violent, concentrated, tank-led warfare employed by the German army in the war. Originally, in Britain it referred specifically to concentrated air attack. The German bombing of London in 1940 is known as “The Blitz”. Blitz today can mean a concentrated effort in many different contexts.
