Birdie

In golf, birdie is a score one under par for an individual hole. The origin is from late 19th century American slang when a bird of a shot meant a great shot, hence birdie. Indeed that is why all under par scores are named after birds. Eagle is two under par, while albatross, a very rare bird, is an almost unbelievable three under par.
