Bet your bottom dollar

This is an American expression dating from the mid-19th century. It alludes to risking the last money you have, the last dollar at the bottom of one’s pocket. Another theory is that it originates from poker when a player bets the last stack of chips, including the chip or dollar at the bottom of the stack.
