Bet your…

There is a whole host of betting expressions, most of which originated in America during the mid to late 19th century, where one can bet one’s boots, bottom dollar, house, farm, shirt, sweet arse/ass, etc. The purpose of most of them is to give added assurance or emphasis to whatever statement one is putting forward. They eventually culminated in all-encompassing and shortened expressions like you bet and you betcha, the latter being the favourite catchphrase of Sarah Palin, the Republican Party nominee for vice president in the 2008 US presidential election.
