Best of both worlds

Origin of: Best of both worlds

Best of both worlds

is is an idiom that refers to reaping the benefits from two seemingly opposed alternatives. Whilst the concept may very well be ancient, the expression of it in English is not attested before the early 19th century. Charles Kingsley used the expression in Westward Ho! (1855) “Make the best of both worlds” but he certainly did not coin it.
