Beeline

A beeline is the shortest distance between two points, as in to ‘make a beeline’ for or to a place. It is American in origin and dates in this sense from the late 18th/early 19th century. Its origin comes from the behaviour of bees who collect nectar and return to the hive. They then communicate the find to other bees who fly straight to the source, hence making a beeline to it.
