Barrel of fun/laughs

This informal idiom for fun or jollity is originally American and dates from the early 19th century but its usage soon spread to the rest of the English-speaking world. Barrel of fun was given a boost during WWII when the song 'Roll out the Barrel' also known as 'The Beer Barrel Polka' became popular, especially in Britain. Not many people are aware that this popular song is of Czech origin, and was originally composed as a polka in the then Czechoslovakia in 1927.
