This famous quotation is from John F. Kennedy’s inaugural speech as US President 20 January 1961 but another famous American used it before him. Oliver Wendell Holmes said in a speech 30 May 1884, “To recall what our country has done for each of us, and to ask ourselves what we can do for our country.”
