Acid drop

A hard, sharp-tasting confectionery or sweet produced from boiling, then cooling a sugar mixture. In this cooling process, the shape of the sweet resembles a large drop of liquid. Acid drops, fruit drops, sometimes known as sugar plums, first made their appearance in the early 19th century.
