AC/DC

These acronyms for alternating current and direct current have come to signify bisexuality and derive from likening bisexual people to electrical appliances that can run efficiently on either alternating or direct current. In fact, AC/DC has become so well known that it is probably used more often than the word bisexual. The origin and use of AC/DC to mean bisexual is American from the 1950s. AC/DC is also the name of the famous Australian rock band formed in 1973. The name was chosen for the raw power and energy the band displays on stage rather than their sexual orientation.
